My husband and I like to eat naturally and organically as much as possible to strengthen and protect our bodies. A couple of ways we do this is by omitting processed foods containing additives and opting for produce that has been grown without the use of pesticides or lower levels of pesticides. We especially enjoy finding companies that are making natural and organic foods available at a lower cost!
I am excited to share with you an innovative and heroic company that is revolutionizing how we can purchase organic produce up to 40% less than grocery store prices + have it delivered to our doorstep! Here's to nourishing our bodies in a more practical and budget-friendly way! :)
Misfits Market
Misfits Market is striving to make it possible for people to have organic fruits and vegetables available to them at a more reasonable and sustainable cost. They are also rescuing excess produce that otherwise may have been thrown away— reducing food waste! Some fruits or veggies they save are shaped a bit differently, not fitting the cookie-cutter cosmetic standards of bigger grocers, but are perfectly edible and enjoyable. It's so much fun to have a colorful box of clean fruits and veggies that have been shipped straight to our home.
We have been inspired to try new vegetables and cook new recipes which has been fun! They have lots of recipes on their blog which is a helpful resource. Our produce picks for this week are: white cauliflower, butternut squash, red radishes, Yukon potatoes, small red potatoes, yellow peaches, large yellow onion, small Valencia oranges, romaine lettuce, jicama, green cabbage, red beets, Granny Smith apples, and limes!
Misfits produce offerings change seasonally, and this allows our bodies to benefit from greater nutrient diversity. For example, tomatoes, which are in season during the summer have a component called lycopene that helps "prevent UV damage from sunburn" (Eat Pretty, Live Well). Whereas, carrots, in season during the winter, boost our immunity to help us fight sickness (Eat Pretty, Live Well, Healthline).

A new study shows that eating organic can reduce pesticides in your body by 70%! Check out the video below for more information!

When it comes to choosing organic, referencing the EWG's Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists are a great place to begin! The Dirty Dozen lists the produce that is most heavily treated by pesticides. Starting small with choosing organic with produce like leafy greens and strawberries can make a big difference! Whereas, produce like avocados or bananas are not as important to choose organic since the insides are more protected by the thicker peel around the fruit.
I hope this is helpful! Ultimately, choosing organic when possible can be beneficial!
Here's to making the little changes that we are able to that can make a difference! ☺️
Warmly,
Heather
